A Ten Year Anniversary in Provence
To celebrate our 10th anniversary, Jacob and I always thought that taking an international trip would be in keeping with the way we tend to celebrate. In December, we began to consider Scotland. It has been over seven years since our trip to London and we certainly have much more of the UK to discover. Unfortunately, with the exchange rate being nearly $2 to the pound, it made the idea of traveling on a budget a little less likely. We also were a bit concerned about the weather for the first week of April in a country more notorious for constant rain than Oregon.
So, as coincidence would have it, we turned from the section of Scotland travel books in Borders and looked at the shelf across the isle — France. Certainly, Paris is always alluring. In my opinion, it just barely edges out New York City as my favorite metropolis in the world. But we were just in Paris last year with my mother and we are itching for seeing “somewhere else”. So, there, completely out of order but we were about to make a bigger mess of it was the sections for the Languedoc and Provence. Provence! Sun drenched landscapes, Roman and medieval ruins, Provencal markets? We were sold. Not to mention the more favorable Euro rates compared to Pound rates meant we would be able to save some.
Our goal: a week in Provence for under $4000 total cost. It’s absolutely possible. We’ll tell you how we do it.
